Local interests & activities

As well as walking and cycling, Ilkley’s famous outdoor Lido and indoor swimming pool beckon, and there are excellent horse riding, golf and climbing options available, from Brimham Rocks to the great Kilnsey Cragg. The Turkish Baths in Harrogate are well worth a visit, especially for guests coming at the cooler times of year, when a pampering day at these historic baths will provide a perfect recovery from winter walks.

The Dales hosts some superb country pubs and restaurants, as well as farmer’s markets and deli shops in its handsome little market towns, including Skipton, Settle, Hawes and Masham to name but a few.

Significant stately homes in the area include Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Ripley Castle and Harewood House, whilst gardeners will find an enticing array of gardens to visit, such as Newby Hall, Harlow Carr, York Gate and Parcevall Hall.

Art galleries and craftspeople abound in the area (nearby Grassington is a hub!), and the much-loved Salts Mill (home of Hockney) is just 20 minutes’ drive away. You’ll find theatres, cinemas and shops a-plenty in the towns of Harrogate, Leeds and historic York (25-40-60 minutes away respectively).

Equally, if it’s an easy time you are after, then cosy on up, and soak up the scenery!

Whatever your interests and preferences, we will do our best to ensure you get the most out of this special place.
